Lawn Renovation Selecting the right time of year to seed cool-season grasses is the most important factor in successful lawn establishment. The best time to seed cool-season grasses is between August 25 and October 1. Lawns seeded at this time are more likely to fill in completely by winter and produce a thicker appearance the following spring than lawns seeded at other times. Core Aeration improves air exchange and provides oxygen to the important root zone area of the grass plant. Pulling soil cores and depositing them on the soil surface increases microbial activity and enhances breakdown of the thatch layer. Slice seeding cuts vertical grooves into the soil, deposits seed into the slits, then covers the seed with soil which dramatically increases seed germination percentages. Slice seeding in two directions provides uniform growth, quicker coverage, and is standard practice at Ritter landscape. Only high quality government certified grass seed specifically designed to withstand the transition zone climate is used. New hybrid varieties that are drought tolerant and disease resistant enable your lawn to retain that “green carpet” look longer.
